PAUL & ESTHER TROYER - ENGLISH EVANGELISM

We were both raised in Christian homes and were saved at early ages. Paul grew up in Michigan, and Esther grew up in Texas and Colorado.

God, in His providence, led us both to attend college at Hobe Sound Bible College in Florida the same year. Paul was a sophomore studying linguistics, and Esther was a freshman studying music education. We became engaged and were planning on returning to Florida after the wedding, when in late May, we found out through Paul's brother that Japan Mission was looking for more English teachers.

Paul has felt for a long time the call to minister in the Asian world, and he has prepared by studying teaching English as a Second Language. This opportunity was for one year which would allow us to return to finish Esther's degree, give us valuable teaching experience and prepare us for further ministry in Asia. Japan Mission was willing to allow us to come on very short notice, and we believed that God was leading us in that direction.

We decided to take it one step at a time and see if God opened the doors. He did and now we are in Japan partnering with churches to teach English as an outreach to their communities. We teach a number of classes each day, between Tuesday and Saturday and this puts us in contact with around 80 students; from Kindergarten age to Seniors.

Many of these students do not attend church and are not Christians and some are even openly Buddhist. Each church provides a short Bible time in Japanese for every class. We pray that God will open doors for them to see the Light and Hope of the Gospel. It is a journey of faith and trust in the All-powerful, All-knowing God.
