Unemployment statistics in Japan have hit an all time high since the government started keeping such records in 1953. Hunger relief programs are starting to become overwhelmed as people in the inner-city line up from 2 am to get one meal a day!
PRAYER
Please pray that many people would turn to the "Creator God" as the god of materialism does not satisfy. Please pray that the Japanese would seek the "Bread of Life" as many receive tracts as well as food.
Also: Several of the Joy Club English teachers have become concerned by the increase in the activities of the cults in the Kansai area, especially the Mormons and Jehovah's Witnesses. It seems that while many people's hearts appear resistant to the Gospel, the cults are finding 'fertile ground' for their false teaching! Pray for wisdom as we seek to share the truth from God's Word about the only Saviour of sinners, the Lord Jesus Christ.
We praise God for how He always meets our needs. We are often seeking people who feel the Lord might be calling them to Japan to teach English conversation as a means of evangelism. If you feel God is leading in this direction, please contact us at: jm@japanmission.org.

Praise God that several 'new' churches have expressed interest in starting English classes as a means of reaching out to the Japanese. As a result, we have started two new Joy Club classes, one in the Kyoto area and the other near Wakayama. Do pray for the effectiveness of these new Joy Clubs and that God might use them to reach souls with the Gospel.
Please pray for Mr. Caballes who is a Hospital Evangelist in the southern part of the Philippines. In this part of the country the Muslim people outnumber the Christians. Please pray for protection for Mr. Caballes, as persecution and kidnappings of Christians is common.
Many of our staff are in contact with various non-Christian students by e-mail. Please pray that God grants them wisdom as they have an opportunity to witness, counsel and have more contact with the students through this means.
Thank you for your continued prayers.
Warmly in Him, David Verwey
